A Well-Kept Secret, A Well-Deserved Honor!
This morning, staff and students at Robbinsdale School pulled off a top-secret surprise assembly to celebrate Alyssa Downey for an incredible honor!
Alyssa was recognized as the 2026 South Dakota School Nurse of Excellence — a statewide award recognizing the very best school nurse in South Dakota. 🏆
From caring for students to supporting staff and families, Alyssa’s compassion, dedication, and leadership make a difference every single day. In addition to serving students at Robbinsdale, Alyssa is also the school nurse at Grandview Elementary School. We are so proud to celebrate her and this well-deserved recognition.
Congratulations, Alyssa!

Please join us in celebrating Alyssa Downey, our incredible School Nurse, who has been named the South Dakota School Nurse of Excellence Award recipient!
Alyssa goes far beyond caring for bumps, bruises, and daily medications. She is a fierce advocate for students, a compassionate partner for families, and a trusted leader for our staff. She works tirelessly behind the scenes to remove barriers so students can learn, grow, and thrive.
Her attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and unwavering heart for kids truly make a difference in our school community every single day.
We are so proud to call her ours. 💙
Congratulations, Alyssa — thank you for helping us grow leaders through excellence! 🏃♂️✨

This terrific team braved the icy waters at the 2026 Polar Plunge and they absolutely ROCKED it for a great cause!
Together, these rockstars raised an amazing $6,556 in support of Special Olympics South Dakota. Their courage (and willingness to get a little chilly!) helps provide opportunities and life-changing experiences for athletes across our state.
We are so proud of our team for stepping up, diving in, and showing what it means to lead by example. Way to go, Roadrunners!

We had a fantastic turnout at Future Cobbler Night! It was so fun to look up into the stands and see so many of our Future Cobblers showing their spirit and cheering alongside the community at Rapid City Central High School.
Several Roadrunner staff members joined in the fun as well, proudly supporting our students and celebrating this special night together. We hope everyone enjoyed the exciting basketball games, the energy of the cheerleaders, and the awesome sounds of the band!
One of the most memorable moments was watching the senior basketball players be recognized for Senior Night. Our elementary students got a glimpse of that milestone—and a reminder that one day, that will be them.
A big congratulations to one of our very own Roadrunners, Enza, who was the lucky winner of a Nintendo Switch! Way to go, Inza—we hope you’re already having fun with it!
The future is bright, and it’s filled with Cobbler pride!

Our students spent Community Day focusing on healthy bodies and healthy hearts!
🍓 Heart-Healthy Snack Time
Students created their own fruit kabobs using bananas, grapes, and strawberries—taking their time to cut, build, and enjoy a snack that fuels their bodies and builds independence. Learning happens best when we slow down and savor it!
🎨 Heart Art & Positive Affirmations
Students designed tear-art hearts and paired them with powerful affirmations like “I can do hard things” and “I can keep going even when it’s challenging.” These meaningful creations will be displayed in our building during conferences as a reminder of the strength, resilience, and positivity our students carry with them every day.
We loved seeing creativity, collaboration, and confidence shining throughout the building. 💕
Community + wellness = a strong school heart!
This week (Feb. 2–6), we’re celebrating our amazing school counselor, Ms. Caylan Hadley, and the incredible impact she has on our students every day. From supporting big feelings to cheering on successes, she truly is a real-life superhero!
Thank you, Ms. Hadley, for amplifying our success and making our school a better place for every student.

Today’s Community Day assembly was full of energy, laughter, and powerful learning as students explored what it means to flip their pancakes—shifting from negative thinking to a positive, growth mindset. We were thrilled to have Nugget from the Rapid City Rush, Karl the Cobbler from Central, and Robby the Roadrunner join us as active participants, modeling how even our mascots can pause, reframe, and choose a better way to think.
After some team-building to kick things off, students created a “reframe” picture frame, writing negative thoughts on one side and flipping them to positive, empowering words on the other. They also illustrated real-life situations, showing how a change in perspective can make a big difference. Back in classrooms, each student received a pancake sticker—a simple reminder that we always have the power to flip our thinking.
What a joyful way to build community, strengthen SEL skills, and remind our students that mindset matters. 💛

🌟 Teacher of the Year: Kellie Sabo
Kellie goes the extra mile every single day—for her students and for her colleagues. She is always ready to step in wherever she’s needed, often beyond her assigned responsibilities, with a positive attitude and a generous heart. Her teamwork, reliability, and steady support make her an invaluable part of the Robbinsdale community. We are so grateful for the care and commitment she brings to our school.
🌟 Support Person of the Year: Julie Babbe
Julie is being honored for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering commitment to both students and staff. She brings creativity, organization, and teamwork to the Learning Center while celebrating student growth and contributing to a positive school culture. Julie’s energy and willingness to help make our environment supportive, enjoyable, and well-run. Her colleagues agree—she truly goes above and beyond every day.
👏 Please join us in congratulating Kellie Sabo and Julie Babbe—we are so proud to have them represent the incredible work happening at Robbinsdale! 💙🏫

We are excited to announce that Robbinsdale Elementary has once again participated in the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive, in partnership with Scholastic and the non-profit Pajama Program!
This year marked our 9th year taking part in this amazing tradition—and it was one of our very best.
Students and staff joined in on Pajama Day, and we added a brand-new, wildly popular fundraiser: Tat a Teacher! All money raised was used to purchase pajamas for our drive.
Thanks to your generosity, we gathered 92 pairs of pajamas this year. Scholastic matches each donation with a book so 92 new books are on their way to accompany those pajamas—making bedtime warmer, cozier, and filled with stories.
All donations were picked up by the Women and Children’s Home right here in Rapid City. They were incredibly appreciative, and we are so grateful to help families in our very own community this holiday season.
📌 A note for future donations:
Pajamas can be any size- from infants to adults- and do not need to be Christmas or winter-themed. If you spot a great deal on PJs anytime this year, feel free to pick them up! We’ll be hosting our 10th Annual Pajama Drive next fall, and we can’t wait to make it our biggest year yet!
Thank you, Robbinsdale community, for continuing to make a difference… one pair of pajamas and one bedtime story at a time.!

Today our school came together to celebrate the habit of Synergize—because we’re better when we work together! 🤝
Students gathered in their community groups to mix up hot cocoa and create a special ornament, reminding us that teamwork can make something both meaningful and fun.
We loved seeing our Roadrunners collaborate, encourage one another, and enjoy the spirit of the season. ❤️

Our Diabetes Awareness Week coin wars were a huge success!
Thanks to the incredible generosity and competitive spirit of our students and staff, we raised $739.82! Classes had a blast strategizing with their coins and dollars, and it was a close race all week long. In the end, Life Skills pulled ahead and claimed the win!
We are so proud of our Roadrunners for coming together for such an important cause. All funds have been donated to Diabetes Incorporated in Rapid City to support their mission and the families they serve.
Way to go, Roadrunners—you made a difference! 💙 #GrowLeadExcel #RobbinsdaleRocks
